Signs You Need A New Garbage Disposal Installed

Your garbage disposal may be one of the most used appliances in your kitchen. When the disposal is nearing the end of its lifespan, you should have a new one installed before yours gives out completely. This way, you aren't inconvenienced by not having one, you won't have to start dealing with sink clogs, you won't be putting unnecessary stress on your pipes, and you won't end up dealing with bad odors. Here are some warning signs to indicate that it's likely time for you to replace your garbage disposal:

Signs it may be time for a new garbage disposal

You are resetting the disposal with more frequency

Every once in a while you need to reset the garbage disposal. That's why the garbage disposal has a reset button to begin with. However, if you need to reset the garbage disposal much more often, this is a good indication that the disposal needs to be replaced.

The disposal is having issues with clogging

It doesn't take you long to learn how to properly run the garbage disposal. You know about how much you can put down it at a time to prevent it from clogging and jamming up on you. This is why you want to take notice if your garbage disposal is beginning to clog and jam on a regular basis. The onset of these issues can indicate the disposal is starting to malfunction and nearing the end of its lifespan.

The disposal has become unpredictable

When you turn on the garbage disposal, it should work right away for you, every time. However, an older garbage disposal that's in need of replacement soon can start to randomly shut off in the middle of doing its job. Or, it can turn on sometimes and just not turn on other times.

It takes longer to grind the food

It doesn't take long at all for the garbage disposal to grind up the food you put down it. However, a garbage disposal that needs to be replaced can start to take longer because of the wear that's on the impellers and the grind ring.

There is water leaking from the bottom of the disposal

If you have found a puddle of water under the sink, then you want to have someone come fix the leak right away. It can be coming from any number of places. However, if the leak is coming from the bottom of the garbage disposal, then this is a sign that the time has come to have a new one installed.

Contact a local plumber to ask about garbage disposal installation services.
